Throughout my art practice, my main subjects are figures with some abstraction. I believe that people have an increased interest in artwork when there are figures, as they're naturally drawn to subjects that have relatability and familiarity. Taking note of this and using a subject that can draw in a certain focus of attention helps create a bigger impact on my audience. Painting figures helps me appreciate the process and the amount of time needed for a piece. Especially, since so many textures and features are used and evident, creating an increased level of significance throughout the work due to each unique quality within. To complement the uniqueness of each figure, I place them into abstract backgrounds, experimenting with a heightened contrast in color, shapes, and size to evoke a certain emotion. Seamlessly combining the figure with an interesting background creates a moment of peace and chaos intertwined as one, communicating what may not have been as noticeable at the beginning.
My preferred mediums are acrylic and oil paint. I enjoy the process of portraying a figure from scratch, taking the time to notice small shifts and details under different layers of work. Even in a time when ai is creating a shift in the art world, taking the time and working through a rigorous process that involves layering colors using acrylic and oil paint is what I am passionate about.
